History & Origin

Pointers originated in England during the 17th century as hunting dogs specialized in locating game birds. Their name comes from their instinctual behavior of 'pointing' at prey with their bodies. They were later crossed with various breeds like Greyhounds and Bloodhounds to improve their speed and scenting abilities.
