History & Origin

The Alaskan Malamute, among the oldest Arctic sled dog breeds, was originally developed by the Inuit tribe known as the Mahlemut, in northern Alaska. Bred primarily for pulling heavy sleds over long distances in extremely harsh weather conditions, Malamutes played vital roles in transportation and survival, becoming indispensable companions in polar expeditions and sledding competitions.
